We were very surprised that an event of this magnitude happens in a small town like Tamarindo. Every September thousands come to Tamarindo to run the marathon, half marathon, 30k, 10k & 5k. This is a small privately owned zoo just outside of Liberia, an easy drive from Tamarindo if this is where you are staying. It was well worth the trip. You can buy bags of carrots for $1 to feed the animals...giraffes, zebras, warthogs, ostriches, antelope and more. Africa Mia Zoo info here...
